wild over wild flowers

i'm somewhat obsessed with wild flowers. plus, they are just so quintessentially late summer time, no? so we went on a fun mini adventure yesterday to a pick-your-own wild flower farm.

there were dozens of varieties to choose from. rows and rows of bright + gorgeous colors. sunflowers taller than me. lots of sweet bees buzzing around. it was a perfect afternoon.

we picked over two buckets full for a mere $20 + $2 to keep the bucket to carry them home. suburbia highlight: WAY cheaper than a whole foods bundle.

air plants

while out on one of our mini adventures i traipsed into a sweet little shop. i spotted a bunch of gorgeous glass containers all scattered along a raw brick wall. in a few lay these little, naked, green plants, just floating in air. the girl behind the counter told me they were air plants; they require no soil, just misting and the occasional dunk in water and happily sit alone or in one of these glass pods. 

how perfect! they sounded so easy which sounds especially great as i am 1) currently trying to dust off my green thumb and 2) are in-between houses. 

i picked a smallish plant, which i was assured would be ready to bloom soon, and a rounded globe. 

the globes really are exceptional pretty as you can tell by the imperfections that they are hand blown and have really fat edges. 

i watered it in the bathroom sink as soon as we got home and it is already brightening up the bedroom. i mean, really, how great are these little guys?!

april showers

one of my best girlfriends is getting married. us bridesmaids just threw her a bridal shower last weekend. and i must say, it was practically flawless. and because valerie is one of my best friends i decided to use some of my favorite "party ideas" for her shower.

i wanted to dessert table look to be inviting, beautiful + delicious. for the overall table look this was my inspiration...

and this was the result...

in hindsight we could have used more bud vases of roses. 

for the cake i fell in love with this image ages ago and was determined to use all aspects of it as possible...

and then i spotted this in a martha post a few months back and just loved it. so i switched up the colors for valerie's purple wedding color. it was such a beautiful way to decorate, bring in tons of fun + pops of color and was super fun + super easy. 

*obvi it would have been nice to have the city backdrop and party on a lush rooftop.

oh-so-fascinating!

i have a thing for hair flair; hats, turbans, headpieces, hair bands, fascinators...i love it all.

obviously the royal wedding re-sparked everyones appreciation for hair flair.

really, how fabulous are these?!?!

and then while feverishly flipping through my coveted September VOGUE i spied this ever so chic photo of anita pallenberg. 

while at my moms this past weekend, we were flipping through her endless sea of catalogs and i spotted these gorgeous hair bands made of huge, fresh, hot pink flowers.

my brain spins on dreaming up places where i can go wearing this. swoon!

so it seems hot hats are everywhere. i guess i need to bust out my turban this season, that i have yet to bring to the streets.

museum mile minus the museums

when S and i first moved here we were on a serious budget. well...we were unemployed and our measly savings were dwindling, so we took advantage of every free event in nyc possible. in early june we decided to check out musuem mile; all musuems along 5th avenue between 82nd street & 105th street are free for the evening.

what a fabulous idea. we packed a pb&j lunch and headed out to absorb the art & history. walking from columbus circle because we couldn't even afford the subway. once we arrived at the metropolitan museum of art we were told the free event didn't start for another 6 hours. devastated.

it took us years to attempt again. this year we made a date to go with one of our favorite nyc couples, becca + mike. we soaked up the atmosphere and bustle, walked more than the mile up along 5th avenue and ditched the museums and chaotic lines in favor of a nyc pretzel and drawing on the sidewalk. we made some masterpieces with our 3 shade challenge of colors.

   

perhaps next year we will be prepared for the lines, swarm of children and upper east side parents and lack of food vendors.

urban garden

on my fairly long commute to work every morning from the upper east side to chelsea there is a little strip of 28th street that is just gorgeous & awake. i feel like alice wondering through wonderland.
